How Additives Improve PS Properties?

Various additives are blended into PS to modify its properties and meet different performance requirements.

  • Impact Modifiers: Increase toughness and reduce brittleness, improving durability.
  • Heat Stabilizers: Enhance resistance to thermal degradation during processing and use.
  • Flame Retardants: Improve fire resistance for safety compliance.
  • UV Stabilizers: Protect against color fading and material breakdown under sunlight.

Get PS Parts with Zhongde

Standard PS has low heat resistance, around 70–90°C, and is not suitable for high-temperature applications. High-impact polystyrene (HIPS) offers slightly better heat resistance.
Pure PS is brittle and prone to cracking, but its impact resistance can be improved by adding toughening agents or through modification.
PS is recyclable but not biodegradable. For applications with strict environmental requirements, careful consideration is needed.
