PS Properties
Polystyrene (PS) is an amorphous thermoplastic known for its rigidity, transparency, and smooth surface finish. It is lightweight, easy to process, and offers good dimensional stability at a low cost.
Injection molding is often chosen for high-volume production of complex PS parts requiring tight tolerances, while extrusion is suitable for creating continuous products like sheets and films with uniform thickness. Machining is mainly applied to small batches or prototypes that demand precise detailing or secondary finishing.

How Additives Improve PS Properties?
Various additives are blended into PS to modify its properties and meet different performance requirements.
- Impact Modifiers: Increase toughness and reduce brittleness, improving durability.
- Heat Stabilizers: Enhance resistance to thermal degradation during processing and use.
- Flame Retardants: Improve fire resistance for safety compliance.
- UV Stabilizers: Protect against color fading and material breakdown under sunlight.
- Plasticizers: Improve flexibility and reduce brittleness in specific applications.
- Antioxidants: Prevent oxidation, extending material lifespan.

FAQs of PS Materials
View our FAQ center for more questions.
What is the heat resistance of PS material?
Standard PS has low heat resistance, around 70–90°C, and is not suitable for high-temperature applications. High-impact polystyrene (HIPS) offers slightly better heat resistance.
Is PS material brittle?
Pure PS is brittle and prone to cracking, but its impact resistance can be improved by adding toughening agents or through modification.
How environmentally friendly is PS material?
PS is recyclable but not biodegradable. For applications with strict environmental requirements, careful consideration is needed.
It is easy to fill the form.
