SPI Mold Surface Finish Standards
We offer a range of mold surface finishes based on SPI standards, helping you specify the gloss level and texture required for your custom injection-molded parts.
SPI A1–A3: High-Gloss Finish
Diamond polishing produces highly reflective mold surfaces for glossy plastic parts, such as cosmetic housings and display components.
SPI B1–B3: Semi-Gloss Finish
Abrasive-paper finishing provides a smoother, less reflective appearance than high-gloss polishing, suitable for many visible plastic housings and covers.
SPI C1–C3: Matte Finish
Stone polishing creates a low-gloss surface for parts where a matte appearance is preferred over a polished look.
SPI D1–D3: Textured Finish
Dry blasting creates satin, dull, or coarser textured mold surfaces for parts requiring a less reflective finish or a defined surface feel.

Injection Molding Case Study: Juicer Housing
Zhongde provided custom injection molding services for the plastic housing of a juicer for a home appliance brand. The housing needed to maintain a clean exterior appearance while withstanding the heat and daily handling associated with appliance use.
We selected ABS for its balance of heat resistance, impact strength, and surface quality. During mold development, we optimized the rib and screw-boss structures, along with the molding and cooling parameters, to reduce sink marks and warpage. For the visible surfaces, we considered a suitable mold texture to make minor scratches less noticeable during daily use.
These adjustments helped address the housing’s thermal, cosmetic, and dimensional requirements while keeping the part suitable for repeat production.

Where is the tooling when my injection mold is done?
As a one-stop rubber and plastic injection molding manufacturer, we will make the tooling by ourselves. As long as you continue to run parts in our facility, we will keep the molds for you and make any necessary repairs or refurbishments at our cost for the life of your mold.
Who owns the mold?
The mold belongs to you. Zhongde is only responsible for saving the mold for you and will not use it for other customers.
Can I modify the injection mold after the first run?
We can modify your steel injection mold by additional machining, fill-in welding, welding in additional material, or inserting a replacement feature for a reasonable cost. However, if the changes are too great, producing a new mold may be more cost-effective than reworking the existing one.
Why is injection molding so expensive?
Injection molding is costly due to high mold tooling fees, setup time, and precision needs—but it pays off for large-volume production with lower part costs.
