What Can We Customize in CNC Plastic Bushings?

Every application places different demands on a bushing—load direction, rotational speed, temperature fluctuations, and chemical exposure all influence the right design choice. That's why customization goes far beyond outer dimensions. From wall thickness and flange geometry to bore tolerances as tight as ±0.01 mm, and from PTFE-filled POM to glass-filled nylon or PEEK for high-temperature environments, Zhongde adjusts each design parameter to match your operating conditions.

Size

We machine bushings ranging from 3 mm bore micro-bushings for precision instruments to 300 mm+ industrial sleeves, achieving bore tolerances within ±0.01 mm and wall thicknesses down to 0.5 mm while maintaining the mechanical requirements of each application. Whether you're retrofitting a legacy assembly with obsolete dimensions or developing a new design, we work directly from your CAD files or physical samples.

Shape

Beyond standard cylindrical sleeves, we CNC-machine flanged, stepped, tapered, and split bushings, along with non-round bore profiles such as D-shaped, hexagonal, and keyed designs for applications requiring anti-rotation features or specific load paths. Multi-diameter steps and internal grooves for lubrication or retaining rings can be machined in a single setup, reducing secondary operations and minimizing potential alignment errors.

Material

Material selection starts with your load requirements, friction conditions, and operating environment. PTFE, UHMW-PE, and acetal (POM) provide low-friction, self-lubricating performance for moving assemblies. Nylon (PA6/PA66) offers toughness and wear resistance, while glass-filled nylon improves strength and dimensional stability under heavier loads. PEEK and PEI withstand sustained high temperatures and aggressive chemical environments. Our engineers evaluate your application data against material properties to recommend the most suitable grade.

Surface Finishes

Surface treatment plays an important role in controlling friction, wear debris generation, and mating-part compatibility alongside material selection. We provide as-machined finishes down to Ra 0.8 μm for tight-clearance fits, bead-blasted or matte finishes to reduce the visibility of machining marks on exposed components, and specialized coatings such as PTFE or molybdenum disulfide for high-cycle applications requiring lower sliding friction. Finish specifications are selected based on your mating surface conditions and duty cycle before production.

Why Choose Zhongde?

Reliable custom bushings depend on a production system that identifies potential issues before they reach your assembly line. Our in-house machining facility operates multi-axis CNC equipment to maintain consistent tolerances across high-mix, low-volume orders. Whether you need a 50-piece prototype run or a 5,000-piece production batch, each order follows a controlled workflow designed to minimize process variation and delays.

Engineering support begins at the drawing stage. Our team reviews CAD files or physical samples for manufacturability, identifies potential fit or wear issues, and recommends material or geometry adjustments before machining starts—helping reduce costly redesign cycles. Critical dimensions are verified through precision inspection, including CMM measurement when required, with QC documentation available for production traceability.

We’ve supplied custom bushings for applications across automotive, medical devices, industrial automation, and precision instruments, each with unique performance requirements. This cross-industry experience helps us troubleshoot unusual load conditions, environmental challenges, and design constraints more efficiently. Combined with responsive communication and direct engineer-to-engineer collaboration, Zhongde works as an extension of your design team.

FAQs of CNC Plastic Bushings

View our FAQ center for more questions.

Many plastic bushing grades, including PTFE-filled acetal and UHMW-PE, are self-lubricating and can operate dry in many applications. For high-speed or high-load conditions, we review the operating requirements and recommend a suitable material or lubrication approach to improve service life.

Unlike many metal alternatives, plastic resins do not rust and generally resist corrosion caused by moisture, salt spray, and many chemicals. For aggressive chemical environments, materials such as PEEK and PTFE provide excellent resistance. We can review your exposure conditions and recommend a suitable grade.

Often, yes. Many plastic bushings can be machined to match existing metal bushing dimensions. However, clearance requirements and thermal expansion should be reviewed first, as plastics typically have a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than metals.
