What is the Cast Molding Process?
The cast molding process or cast urethane refers to pouring liquid raw materials into a mold and turning the material into a solid state.
Zhongde has many years of cast molding experience. Our experienced engineers can accurately analyze whether the product is suitable for casting products according to the product structure.
We rapid prototypes and mass production with high standards. Zhongde provides various cast molds at a competitive price. Such as steel cast molds, aluminum cast molds, and brass cast molds. All the cast molds are reusable.

Cast Molding Molds Making and Tooling Services
Zhongde makes all the molds in-house. We have been insisting on developing our own molds for many years, meanwhile, introducing fully automated equipment. Our professional engineer will help to improve the mold design. In addition, our custom die mold is lifetime guaranteed.

Cast Molding Materials
Cast molding may have a more limited range of material options compared to injection molding and compression molding. Below list is the of general materials for cast molding. However, our expert team can work with you to modify the material if you have specific project requirements.
- PU | Polyurethane
LSR | Liquid Silicone Rubber
- MC Nylon

Cast Molding Surface Finishing
Proper surface finishing will improve the molded parts’ quality. Zhongde offers a wide range of surface treatment options. These efficient surface finishes improve the part’s functions and aesthetic appeal.
Different grades of surface finishing chart.

Glossy
A-grade finish is smooth and highly reflective, giving the product a shiny appearance. It’s often used for products where aesthetics are important.

Semi-glossy
The B-grade finish is less reflective than glossy but still has a smooth and somewhat shiny appearance.

Matte
C-grade finish is non-reflective and has a dull appearance. It’s often chosen for parts where glare or light reflection is undesirable.

Textured
D-grade finishes are intentionally rough or patterned. They can provide a better grip or a unique appearance to the product.

Our Quality Promise
Zhongde is committed to providing quality products that meet or exceed the needs of our customers through continuous improvement.
Strictly follow the confirmed drawings or samples to produce. If there is any deviation, our company will replenish to our customers to make up for the loss.
Advantages of Cast Molding
The cast molding process (cast urethane) makes high-quality prototype components using two-component polyurethane resins and silicone molds. Compared with other on-demand manufacturing, cast molding has many advantages.
The Advantages include as below:
- Low-volume production
- High accurate production
- A wide variety of finish options
- Rapid turnaround on parts
- Durability for maximum wear and strength

Difference Between Cast Molding and Injection Molding
Cast molding involves pouring molten material into a mold cavity and allowing it to cool and solidify, taking the shape of the mold. It is suitable for producing large, complex parts with intricate details and varying wall thicknesses. Cast molding offers design flexibility but may have longer production times and limited material options.
Injection molding, on the other hand, injects molten material into a mold under high pressure. It allows for high-volume production of parts with precise dimensions and complex geometries. Injection molding offers faster cycle times, a wide range of material choices, and tighter tolerances compared to cast molding. However, it requires upfront tooling costs and is better suited for mass production.
The Urethane Casting Process
Urethane casting is the process of injecting polyurethane and additive resins into a soft mold made of a silicone elastomer. Urethane casting is an easy, straightforward process. Below are the steps in making urethane cast products.

Developing the Master Pattern:
Create master patterns using various materials like plastic, and metal by CNC machining or 3D printed prototypes. This master pattern is the exact replica of the final part.

Mold Creation:
A two-part mold is made from silicone rubber or another suitable material. The master pattern is placed inside the mold, creating a void that matches the part’s shape.

Urethane Resin Mixing and Pouring:
Choose suitable urethane resin and mix it according to specification. Then pour mixed materials into the cavity.

Curing and Demolding:
Place the mold to solidify in an oven or at room temperature. Once the resin has cured and solidified, open the mold, and remove the casting product carefully.

Trimming and Finishing:
Trimming, sanding, or post-processing the cast urethane part to meet specific tolerances and surface finish requirements.
