Generally, the manufacturing of injection mold tooling cannot avoid multiple machining processes such as forging, cutting, and heat treatment. In order to ensure the manufacture quality of injection mold tooling and reduce mold opening costs, we should pay more attention to the material selections. The injection mold tooling should have good forgeability, machinability, hardenability, quenching degree and grindability, as well as little oxidation, decarburization sensitivity, and the characteristics of easy quenching deformation and cracking.
1. Forgeability of injection mold tooling
The hot-forged steel has low deformation resistance, good plasticity, wide forging temperature range and low tendency to fracture, cold cracking and precipitated mesh carbides.
2. Annealing manufacturability of injection mold tooling
The annealing temperature range is wide, the hardness is low, the fluctuation range is small, and the spheroidization rate is high.
3. Machinability of injection mold tooling
In the manufacture of injection mold tooling, the large amount of material cutting, low tool loss, and less surface roughness are important factors for the selection of injection mold tooling steel.
4. The oxidation and decarburization sensitivity of injection mold tooling
Oxidation resistance is good when it is heated at high temperature, and the decarburization speed is slow in the production process of custom abs enclosure. The injection mold tooling is insensitive to heating medium and easy to produce hard spot.
5. Hardenability of injection mold tooling
After quenching, the surface hardness is uniform and high.
6. Quenching degree of injection mold tooling
After quenching, a deeper hardening layer can be obtained, and it can be hardened by using a mild quenching medium.
7. The tendency to quenching deformation and cracking of injection mold tooling
Traditional quenching has small volume change, insignificant deformation, small distortion, and low tendency of abnormal deformation. Traditional quenching has low sensitivity to cracking and is insensitive to quenching temperature and workpiece shape.
8. Grindability of injection mold tooling
If the injection mold material has good grinding performance, the grinding wheel loss during the mold manufacturing process is relatively small. Besides that, there is no high requirement on the quality of the grinding wheel and the cooling conditions, and the grinding wear and cracks are not easy to appear.
