In the manufacturing process of CNC machining parts, the most commonly used processing methods are milling and turning. These two processing methods are collectively referred to as cutting. There are two types of cutting processing in CNC lathe processing plants called “rough cutting” and “fine cutting.” So, what is the specific difference between rough and fine cutting in CNC machined parts?
Ⅰ. Rough cutting in CNC machining parts
After “rough cutting,” the CNC machined parts are very close to the required shape and size, but there is still enough metal margin on the machined surface of the CNC parts for finishing so that the surface of the workpiece is smooth and the size is accurate.
Generally speaking, CNC machining parts, steel bars, forgings, and castings can reach the required shape and size by only one rough and fine cutting. However, sometimes certain mechanical parts may require more than one rough cutting. For some hardware parts processing, if the precision is not high or the amount of metal that needs to be removed is small, it may only need one fine cutting.
Rough cutting has to remove most of the remaining material, and the cutting force must be quite large, which means that the entire machine, tool, workpiece, or all three must withstand it. The purpose of rough-cutting CNC machining parts is to remove the remaining material as quickly as possible, and the remaining machining surface should not be too rough. The thin workpiece cannot resist bending or damaging the parts.
Ⅱ. Fine cutting in CNC machining parts
Fine cutting makes the surface of the workpiece smooth and accurate in size, so it is a more delicate cutting. Finishing emphasizes precision: the amount of metal removed with a very sharp tool is less, and the accuracy required for measurement is higher.
Whether it is rough cutting or fine cutting of CNC machining parts, CNC machining workers must set the rough cutting and fine cutting steps according to the pre-determined process and adjust the machine tool. It is necessary to consider the size and shape of the workpiece, the material and tool types, and the nature of the upcoming cutting. Then start to adjust the machine tool to the correct speed and feed rate and adjust the device to reach the required cutting depth.
